Your team can take a Pay by Bank payment from the Charge Patient window, right next to the card option. It's a great choice when a patient wants to pay a larger balance, like a treatment plan, without using a card.
Collect a payment
Open the Charge Patient window and select the patient.
Under Payment Method(s), select the Pay by Bank toggle.
Select the patient's saved bank account, or select Use a new bank account. To keep a new account for next time, check Save this bank account for future payments.
Check the authorization box. The Charge button turns on once it's checked.
Click Charge.
For a new account, the patient completes the secure Plaid steps: phone number (optional), choose their bank, reCAPTCHA, log in to their bank, and pick the account.
A success confirmation appears in the Charge window.
The patient automatically receives an email and/or text confirming the payment.
Tips for a smooth checkout
Have the patient with you. For in-person collections, the patient should be present to complete the bank login step with their own online banking credentials.
Offer to save the account. A saved account can be selected for future payments.
Set expectations. Bank payments take 3–5 business days to settle, even though the payment shows as Succeeded right away.
Patients choose the account each time. Setting a default bank account isn't currently supported, so the account is selected at the time of each payment.
Manage a patient's bank accounts
You can see, add and remove a patient's linked bank accounts in two places.
From the Charge Patient window
Go to Collect Payment → Manage Bank Accounts in the left navigation (next to Manage Cards).
If no accounts are linked yet, click Link Bank Account. The patient is taken to Plaid, a secure bank-connection service, to enter a phone number (or continue without one), select their bank, complete reCAPTCHA, log in on their bank's own login page, and choose the checking or savings account to link.
If accounts are linked, you'll see each one's bank name, account type, last 4 digits and the date it was linked.
To remove an account, click the red trash icon. To add another, click Link Bank Account.
From the patient's Payment Methods
Go to Payments, open the patient, and click Payment Methods.
Select the Bank Accounts tab (next to Cards).
Review the patient's accounts: Bank Name, Account Type, Last 4, Linked Date and Actions.
PbN never stores or accesses a patient's bank login credentials.
