How Fluoride % is Calculated

The fluoride percentage represents the proportion of hygiene patients within a specific date range who received a fluoride service. Here's how the calculation is structured:

  • Numerator: The number of patients who had a fluoride service code charged.
  • Denominator: The number of hygiene patients who had codes charged from the Recall code set and Perio code sets. (You can check these codes under Settings > Service Code Sets). The denominator includes only patients with prophys and perio maintenance, not all hygiene patients.

The denominator might be the same as the total number of hygiene patients seen, but it could differ if you include other codes such as smile photographs, toothpaste, custom codes, x-rays, etc., along with hygiene patients.

Practice Example:

The fluoride percentage was 33.3% between 8/01 and 8/6. To find this number, we will go to the Patients Seen list on the Hygienist Dashboard. From this list of 27 patients, we will count the patients who had a fluoride code plus a perio or recall code walked out.

Based on this list, we have 8 patients who received fluoride and 24 patients who were also seen for perio or recall exams. We will then divide 8 by 24 and multiply by 100 to get 33.3% (8 ➗ 24 = 33.3%)
