Updated over a week ago

Recent updates to HIPAA regulations require healthcare practices to revise their Notice of Privacy Practices (NPP) to reflect new patient rights and data-sharing disclosures. These updates aim to increase transparency around how patient information is used, shared, and protected.

What Changed?

Under the updated guidance, HIPAA Notices of Privacy Practices should more clearly explain:

  • How patient information may be used or disclosed

  • Patients’ rights to access and control their health information

  • Disclosures related to electronic communication and third-party data sharing

  • Updated compliance and enforcement expectations

What Practice by Numbers Has Done

To support practices with these changes, Practice by Numbers has added an updated HIPAA Informed Consent form to the Forms Library. This form reflects the latest HIPAA guidance and is available for practices to use in their patient workflows.

Important: Practice Responsibility

While Practice by Numbers provides the updated form, it is the practice’s responsibility to distribute the updated HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices to patients.

Practice by Numbers does not automatically send or enforce the delivery of HIPAA forms.

Practices are responsible for:

  • Making the updated form available to patients

  • Sending or presenting the form for patient acknowledgment or signature

  • Ensuring patients receive the notice according to HIPAA requirements

How to Find the Updated HIPAA Form

You can locate the updated HIPAA Informed Consent form directly within your Practice by Numbers account:

  1. Navigate to Forms

  2. Go to Import From Library at the top right of the Forms page.

  3. Search for or locate the HIPAA Informed Consent Updated 2026 form

  4. Review the form and add it to your workflows as needed

Once added, you can include this form in patient intake processes, packages, or other form workflows based on how your practice collects patient consent.

What You Should Do Next

We recommend that practices:

  1. Review the updated HIPAA Informed Consent form in the Forms Library

  2. Confirm the form aligns with your legal and compliance requirements

  3. Update your intake or consent workflows as needed

  4. Train staff on when and how the updated form should be provided to patients
